Wasteful Spending?

I knew I had one more thing I wanted to address today.

Republican leaders have examined the $900 billion stimulus bill currently sitting in the Senate and identified what they consider to be "wasteful spending."

I just wanted to list a few of the items they consider to be "wasteful:"

  • $400 million for the CDC to screen and prevent STDs
  • $125 million for the Washington sewer system
  • $150 million for Smithsonian museum facilities
  • $75 million for "smoking cessation activities"
  • $200 million for public computer centers at community colleges
  • $25 million for tribal alcohol and substance abuse reduction
  • $500 million for flood reduction projects on the Mississippi River
  • $500 million for state and local fire stations
  • $1.2 billion for "youth activities"
  • $200 million in funding for the lease of alternative energy vehicles for use on military installations

Yeah, those are all awful.
